Government Brings Forward Bill C-9 With New Rent Program And Wage Subsidy Improvements

The federal government this week tabled Bill C-9, which includes the new and improved commercial rent program and updates to the wage subsidy program.

We welcome Bill C-9, which is generally positive and in line with our recommendations. We have, however, also reiterated our calls to address shortfalls. We are hopeful the legislation can be quickly amended and passed.

250+ Businesses And Associations Join Together To Urge The Finance Minister To Halt Planned Tax Hike Amid Pandemic

We have made public a letter sent to Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland on October 30. The letter from our President and CEO, the Hon. Perrin Beatty, is co-signed by 261 businesses and associations and urges the federal government to freeze its planned excise tax increase on alcoholic beverages, currently scheduled for April 1.

Government Of Canada Launches Consultations To Improve Living Conditions For Temporary Foreign Workers

The federal government has begun consultations with provinces and territories, employers, workers, worker support groups and others on a proposal to establish minimum requirements for employer-provided accommodations for the TFW Program across Canada. You are invited to participate by sending feedback to the government. Participation deadline is December 22.
