Commentary: The Great Quickening, Car Sales And Climate Change
Right now, supply chain challenges are combined with a significant drop in global vehicle demand. Industry analysts estimate that in 2020 global sales of internal combustion engines (ICEs) will be down anywhere from 20-25%. These numbers translate into 70 million passenger vehicles sold in 2020, compared to 90 million in 2019 and 94 million in 2017. While auto-sellers have tried to adapt to social distancing measures by increasing online sales, demand of vehicles could take years to recover in Canada and globally, and that’s bad news for global efforts to combat climate change.

$50 Million For Montreal’s Small Businesses
The Government of Canada, through Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, is planning to grant up to $30 million to the PME MTL network through the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF). The Government of Quebec is also contributing $20 million. This support is aimed at Montreal businesses ineligible for other federal measures related to COVID-19 that are already in place. The funds will be administered by PME MTL, the City of Montreal’s business support network.
Government Changes Travel Restrictions To Ease The Movement Of Family Members
The Canada Border Services Agency is announcing that as of June 8, 2020 23:59 EDT, foreign nationals who are immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents, and who do not have COVID-19 or exhibit any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or who do not have reason to believe they have COVID-19, will be exempt from the prohibition on entry to Canada if entering to be with an immediate family member for a period of at least 15 days. People admitted into Canada pursuant to this exemption must quarantine for 14 days.
Hand Sanitizer Recall
Check your hand sanitizer label. On Saturday, Health Canada issued a recall of six hand sanitizers that are made with industrial-grade ethanol. The chemical can lead to dry skin, irritation and cracking. The brands include Eltraderm, Contract Packaging Distributions, Nature’s Own, Sanilabs and Walker Emulsions.
Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) has a requirement for Non-medical disposable masks from Canadian bidders. The disposable masks must be made in accordance specifications listed in the Request for Proposal. Firm quantity: 25 million.
