Service Canada issues second letter regarding Special Compliance Inspections for Employers of the Temporary Foreign Workers Program

Service Canada has issued a second letter for employers of the TFW program during the COVID-19 pandemic. This letter outlines additional health and safety concerns, notification requirements, inspection criteria, documentation needs, and penalties employers may face for non-compliance.

These new requirements are in accordance with changes introduced to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) to Parliament on April 11, 2020, and that came into force on April 20, 2020. Under these regulations, employers have a specific responsibility to prevent the introduction and spread of COVID-19 in Canada.

Access to funding to help cover costs

On April 13, the federal government announced their intentions to provide $1,500 per TFW to employers to assist with the costs of compliance. Information on how to access that funding will be posted here when it is released by the government.
